The left has unsurprisingly swung into full "insurrection" mode following Trump's re-elction. Denver Mayor Mike Johnston promises state police and thousands of Mom's standing at the entry to the county, prohibiting federal officials from enforcing deportation orders. Voting officials not only openly break the law, but brazenly admit to it on camera in an attempt to alter voting results. Sanctuary states and sanctuary cities are promising rebellion if Trump attempts mass deportations.
To be clear, the United States has long held to a tradition of nullification by states, cities, and even individuals. It's not surprising that Denver police refuse to assist federal officers with deportation. However, moving rom "refusal to assist" to outright obstruction moves beyond nullification, and squarely into rebellion.
There are a few reasons why these rebellions need to be put down firmly. Participants need to be arrested, tried, convicted, and sentenced. An example needs to be set. Here are a few reasons why.
States Rights?
"Powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.", says the Tenth Amendment. Protecting our national borders squarely falls within the pervue of those federal powers -- this is why deportation proceedings take place in federal courts.
It's one thing for a a State to assert its powers within its legal rights, but it is not OK for them
