This should tell us something. Britney Griner still believes that blacks are being denied justice in America. She still believes that people have the right to kneel during the anthem. But she is standing. After months in a self-described Russian cage where she literally could not stand up straight, her perspective seems to have shifted slightly. While her teammates hide in the locker room while the anthem rings out during a Phoenix Mercury game, Britney was on the floor of the stadium standing ramrod straight.

You see, the issue has never been that the left has a leg to stand on. The overwhelming majority of leftists have never experienced what an actual loss of freedom is, and like Britney, when they experience it, the cognitive conflict they experience must be overwhelming. After years of brainwashing at the hands of leftist academia, Britney still believes in what the left (ahem) kneels for, but her heart is forcing her to stand nonetheless.

There’s that old saying raising its head again. If you’re 20 and not a leftist, you don’t have a heart. If you’re 40 and not a conservative, you don’t have a brain. Lived experience matters, and Britney is evidence of this.

What it also is should be a clarion call to conservatives. If we can tell the story, we can change hearts and minds. It’s not easy work, but it can be done.
